Uprising muse guitar cover9/10/2023 ![]() If you didn't know any better, you might think you were at some kind of goth, prog metal show. Its technically the most difficult, but by far the best technique for that lick. All the earmarks were there: the pyrotechnics, the soaring vocals, the guitar solos, the Coheed and Cambria T-shirts, the guy-liner. Went back and re-took your premium lessons on alternate picking with string skips…and voila, there’s the answer. That worked great, but I found the timing a little difficult (I generally find it difficult to maintain rhythm when upstroking on the beat).įinally, I tried straight alternate picking. So then I tried economy picking (up-down-down). So then I tried hybrid picking…and that worked well, except the plucked note wasn’t sounding as loudly and clearly as the picked notes, and I had to use a compressor, which really killed the tone. I tried it with hammerons first, cuz that seemed easiest and really got down the timing…but I knew that wasn’t right because it’s obvious he’s picking each note. It’s a really tough lick because it’s in groups of three notes played as 16ths, and you have to skip between the 3rd and 1st string a lot. The licks in this solo move around the fretboard quite a bit but once again nothing is played at a very high rate of speed. The chords are rather simple here, you will just need to focus on the timing of all of them.įor the guitar solo we will basically have a section that repeats 3 times with a slight variation every time. The chorus uses a very similar rhythm albeit will complete power chords to give it a fuller sound. I will show you how to properly play those octaves and how to play the rhythm strumming pattern as well. This is the first time you hear an actual guitar on the recording.įor the verse we have some basic octaves played in a very distinct rhythm. At the end of the keyboard section comes a quick little guitar fill using unison bends. The notes may require a bit of a fret hand stretch, but they go by slow enough that after just a short amount of practice you can nail the part pretty easily. It is a very catchy melody so it shouldn't take you very long to memorize how it should sound. This melody is mostly based around D minor and A major arpeggios. I start the lesson off by showing you how to play the opening keyboard melody on the guitar. That will mean tuning your guitar starting from the 6th string DADGBE.
